My machine... my (short) story
It's an old story so just add mine to the pile. I grew up in the heyday of the solid-state pinball machines and video games... the early to mid 80's. My father is a pinball nut and passed the bug on to me and I've been addicted for the last 20+ years. The machines that still stick out in my head from childhood are Bally Supersonic, Stern Meteor (which I also own), Bally Space Invaders, and the like. In short, I'm an early SS fanatic!

I picked up my Galaxy at the Auction Game Sales auction in Winston-Salem back in 1999. It didn't boot up, but had all of its components and minimal battery-acid damage. Already having some repair experience (from working on a Stern Meteor), I gave it a shot. It cleaned up very nicely and needed very little work to get it up-and-running. After the transformer/rectifier board was rebuilt (bridge rectifiers and connectors), it was just a matter of reflowing solder and replacing a handful of lightbulbs. Most of the work came from cleaning it up. More detail on that in the Technical/Repair sections.
